Electromagnetic transient modeling and simulation method of PMSG with internal fault simulation ability

English Abstract:
      Accurate modeling and simulation of the internal stator winding faults of permanent magnet synchronous generator(PMSG) are helpful to design an effective state detection system and control protection strategy. First, the internal fault characteristics of PMSG are analyzed and mathematically derived in detail. The dynamic equations in state space form suitable for electromagnetic transient(EMT) modeling is given. Then the methods of EMT modeling and simulation under PMSG internal faults are proposed, and the equivalent circuit is derived. The derived equations are solved by numerical calculation and iterative solution using MATLAB. Then the PMSG test model is established in PSCAD/EMTDC to analyze and compare with the numerical calculation results. The analysis results show that the internal faults produce a large fault current in the short circuit path and it is difficult to judge whether the internal fault occurs from the external characteristics of PMSG. The comparison and verification results show that the established internal fault EMT model of PMSG can accurately reflect the characteristics, which verifies the correctness of the proposed modeling method.
